The Witness Tree
Wimberley Land Company has always used the silhouette of "the Witness Tree" as a long-standing symbol that is synonymous with the company's beliefs. "The Witness Tree"...a majestic Live Oak that conveys feelings of strength, power, shelter and longevity and is known to withstand the test of time. Early settlers and land surveyors often carved an "X" symbol on it's trunk to designate property lines. As proof of their longevity, many of "the Witness Trees" are still referenced today in some property descriptions.
Like "the Witness Tree", Wimberley Land Company strives to reach out to all who visit our beautiful valley, whether it's reuniting with family at the house on the river or calling Wimberley 'home'. For more than 30 years, Wimberley Land Company has helped make many Hill Country dreams come true.

Wimberley History
First established in 1847as a grist mill on Cypress Creek, this small village changed ownership and names several times, the final purchase being made by Pleasant Wimberley in March of 1874. Following the custom of adopting the mill-owner's name, the settlement became known as "Wimberley's Mill". In January of 1880, application for a post office was made. The San Marcos Postmaster submitted the name "Wimberleyville"; the US Postmaster General struck the "ville" and certified the name to be "Wimberley".
The people who settled this valley were strong of body and will and were determined to find a better life than the one they had left. The necessities of life kept them so busy providing for their families that they did not have time to write their history, so they carried their stories in their heads until they were old. Then, in rocking chairs, with little ones about their feet, they recalled the "old tales" which they passed on to those who followed them, and so unto the next generation.
This information was provided by one who was fortunate to sit by those old rockers, and she remembers.
Dorothy Wimberley Kerbow
We sincerely thank her for sharing her "rocking chair" memories.
While Wimberley was established on Cypress Creek out of necessity for the mill, the beautiful Blanco river played it's part by providing fishing holes, low-lying fertile lands ripe for crops and land for homesteads needing water for livestock and the everyday chores of life. The Blanco, of course, was also a source of fun and recreation then, as it is today.
A newly incorporated village, Wimberley nurtures strong feelings for the pioneer heritage of the past, showing a charming and unique face to visitors and residents alike.
"Wimberley - Where Heaven and the Hills Hold Hands"
A rare combination of rivers and creeks, hills and valleys. A wonderful profusion of trees and foliage and a unique blend of people from all walks of life; a mixture which makes Wimberley the very special "Hill Country" place it is today.
Wimberley is full of contrast, yet enables everyone to maintain their own identity, while combining intellectual and artistic talents to make a peaceful sanctuary for one and all.
One visit and you will be charmed; you may even decide to begin your life's journey or spend your retirement years here with us.
As you continue through our website, we hope you will enjoy what you see and, just maybe, want to become a part of it all.
